Jungle Rot 2

by 2nd Lt. Jesthar. Mission date Friday 5th April 2024, 19:00 GMT

SITREP:

TFA has successfully found and freed a large number of missing villagers in a remote northern area of Laos, having been brought in by an oil exploration company to investigate the disappearances. We also destroyed an ore processing plant where the villagers were being used as slave labour.

However, our task is not yet complete. It quickly became clear we can’t have located all the taken villagers yet – especially as there were no women or children among the rescued. We also bypassed multiple pockets of enemy on our way to the labour camp in the boats, we need to ensure these are cleared out.

INTEL:

At the river patrol barracks we discovered a communication from someone calling themselves “Operative 9” to one “Cadre Commander.” We also recovered a number of documents written not in Laotian, but Chinese. This is concerning, as it suggests something more serious than just a local gang – especially as this area is reasonably close to the border with China, and cross-border operations have been uncovered before.

Whist the documents are being translated, interviews with some of the rescued villagers lead us to believe Operative 9 bases himself in a location not far to the north of the labour camp. It is likely our best opportunity to obtain more information, but the opposition are certainly now aware they have a problem on their hands and are likely to be preparing for a fight – or to leave and destroy the evidence.

MISSION:

Move north across the river to the suspected location of Operative 9. Locate his base and clear it – taking care in case any missing villagers are present. Search for any civilians, information and evidence you can find. Photograph anything that might help our analysts. Then destroy all enemy assets.

If we find any information we can act on immediately, we will. Otherwise, we will return to the river and begin clearing the pockets of OpFor contacts we passed on the river last mission.

Ground Topography: Dense river jungle with scattered settlements.

Weather: A hot and humid early morning.

Still unknown, but those we have encountered are definitely armed and dangerous, although not using advanced or heavy equipment. There is also potential Chinese involvement. Should we find a base of operations, caution will be required when searching as there are still missing civilians.
