SITREP:
The political situation in the Republic of Altis & Stratis (RAS) is becoming increasingly unstable in the run up to elections for the position of President. The Freedom and Independence Alliance (FIA) are actively opposing the current government, and have been harassing rural communities with relative impunity.
The current President, Kostas Stavrou, is a former AAF officer and FIA leader who opposed the military junta led by Colonel Georgious Akhanteros. Stavrou was believed killed by a NATO airstrike on the AAC Airfield during Operation East Wind.
However, he survived ,and after a period of recuperation from wounds received in the attack he returned to the capital with evidence that his former deputy, the then President-elect Nikos Panagopoulos, orchestrated the attack by presenting NATO fake intelligence showing that CSAT were present at the airfield. Disgraced, and facing charges of treason, Panagopoulos went into hiding along with his most loyal followers.
As part of his re-election campaign, President Stavrou has planned a series of meetings in various locations to rally support for his re-election.
The Altis Police Department (APD) Special Branch recently discovered a number of low-level FIA sympathisers within the APD ranks. During their interrogations, they revealed that the FIA leader, Panagopoulos, is aware of the PM’s whistle stop tour, and is planning to either assassinate or kidnap the PM. As the AAF are forbidden by law to conduct internal security operations and the loyalty of some APD officers is in doubt, TFA has been requested to assist. The President will be accompanied by his personal bodyguard.
INTEL:
The FIA is led by Nikos “Strawman” Panagopoulos, a former smuggler turned FIA “freedom fighter”. The organisation is split between a trained Paramilitary Wing (FIA-PW) which conducts actual operations, and an mafia style support organisation which provides the FIA’s financing through smuggling arms and narcotics to Europe from the Middle East and Africa.
The Paramilitaries have proven to be well armed and well trained, possibly by CSAT instructors outside of Altis, with high morale. It is likely that the FIA-PW will be the main adversaries on this operation. TFA’s actions on Day 1 have reduced the numbers of FIA-PW’s combatants, but we expect that they will throw everything they have left at the Presidential convoy today.
MISSION:
TFA have been tasked to prevent the assassination or capture of the President of Altis & Stratis. To maintain the plausible deniability of the government regarding the use of foreign forces on Altis, TFA will operate under the guise of the APD Special Forces Unit EKOM, which is based on Stratis.
The concept of operations will be for each platoon to alternate between close escort duties and route clearance for each stage of the route (see map). APD units will be deployed at various locations to carry out traffic control duties.
GROUND: Altis is a volcanic island with a corrugated and mostly rocky landscape with scattered pine forests.
WEATHER: Dry, bright and sunny (bring sunscreen)
NOTES: Part of the route is on tarmac highways, but mainly on dusty back roads.
