Jungle Rot 3 2.0

by 2nd Lt. Jesthar. Mission date Friday 2nd August 2024, 19:00 GMT

SITREP:

TFA is in northern Laos, having been brought in by an oil exploration company to investigate the disappearance of local villagers. In the second phase of our operation, we cleared out a heavily defended enemy compound belonging to the mysterious ‘Operative 9’ – who did not live to regret his life choices. We also recovered an enormous amount of intel the enemy were in the process of trying to destroy, some of which led us to a small compound where we found and freed a number of older female villagers. We then proceeded to make our way back towards the oil exploration compound, clearing out any pockets of remaining enemy we found as we went.

Despite our success so far, we still have much to do. Not only are many villagers still missing, including most of the women and all of the children, but we found increasing evidence they have been deliberately evacuated.

INTEL:

Whilst we spent our afternoon eliminating enemy forces along the river, Laotian intelligence officers were busy working through the mass of documents we recovered. They uncovered a grim truth – this is indeed a Chinese led operation supported by local criminal gangs, and whilst the primary objective is stealing high value natural resources, the villagers themselves are also regarded as valuable commodities for sale to the highest bidder – particularly younger females and children due to China’s demographic crisis. This puts the communication discovered last mission regarding evacuating villagers to the main camp in a much darker perspective.

Unfortunately their communication protocols are professional enough to prevent us pinpointing their exact locations, but we know it is somewhere on the main eastern branch of the river. This makes any settlement or installation a potential location to investigate.

The intel also indicates we can expect a far greater proportion of Chinese operatives the closer we get to the main base. We eliminated a small squad of these at the base of Operative 9, and unlike their insurgent counterparts they are well armed and armoured. Expect a tough fight from them.

We do not, however, expect to encounter any Chinese military vehicles, or anything beyond the types of trucks and technicals encountered at earlier objectives – requests for such assets have been rejected, as should they be discovered it would be much difficult for China to deny direct involvement here. If we encounter any, do not destroy them unless necessary – they will be critical evidence of Chinese involvement.

MISSION:

Having briefly rested and rearmed, TFA will use the river patrol boats to explore the north-east river branch, systematically searching all settlements as we go.

Should we find enemy, deal with them and search for any intel that may help us locate the main base.

Should we find any civilians in the villages (unlikely, but we can hope), call up their presence and evacuation will be arranged. Document any evidence of enemy activity.

Once we have a location for the main base, top priority is to reach, assault, clear and secure it – as usual exercising extreme care regarding civilian presence. The sooner we reach it, the higher the chance we have of rescuing the villagers from transport to China.

Ground Topography: Dense river jungle with scattered settlements, possible abandoned industrial or military sites.

Weather: A hot and humid late evening.
