Operation Valhalla

by Pvt. Sheepdog. Mission date Friday 18th September 2026, 19:00 GMT

Welcome to Vietnam! This operation will be an extended campaign into the Valley of Death.

TFA Mission

Our first mission priority is to airlift into an abandoned ARVN camp that was overran by NVA and VC forces several months ago. Once there, we are to clear it and hold until the 563rd Combat Engineer Battalion can convoy in with equipment to rebuild the defensive perimeter and structures and the ARVN Black Panthers Battalion can get a company in to assist with defense. Until then, we are the defense element.

Once this has been completed the camp will be renamed “Outpost Victory” and become our base of operations for SAR, Recon, Intel, Assault, as well as Sabotage missions in and around the valley.

Additional Objectives: As ordered by Spartan Command

Intel

We have intelligence from various sources, up to but not limited to “Igloo White” (which, if you’re not familiar with, is CIA sound sensors strung all along the Ho Chi Min Trail by our friends in the air force), that Uncle Ho may be moving large amounts of forces into this region. This move may be in preparation for some kind of heavy offensive. Some unconfirmed intelligence also suggests that he is also moving some kind of heavy armor down the trail, as well as unconfirmed reports that there might be SAMs on the trail.

A large part of our job is to find evidence to either confirm or refute these unconfirmed reports.

I will add that army and air force intelligence are not putting any faith in these reports and refuse to commit any extra resources other than us. We’re lucky they’re letting us establish Outpost Victory to use as an A camp. They believe that since neither the VC or NVA have ever moved any heavy armor south of the DMZ, then they won’t. Combine that with no SAMs have ever been reported south of the DMZ, and the brass seems to think it would be impossible for them to do so now without recon air seeing them.

To help drive their shortsightedness home we are only assigned one pilot and support person from the 119th AHC – “The Gators” and “Crocodiles” from the 52nd Combat Aviation Battalion – to assist in air operations and fragged CAS. No dedicated FAC or Fighter support, and limited arty support. Our pilot and support person says they can get some TAC Air if absolutely needed and unfragged birds are available in the area. In other words, we can call for air but it may or may not be available. Same with arty.

There will be several large offensive operations taking place all around the I Corps AO for the next several weeks which will be tying up support resources. That all being said, we will take what we can get when we can get it and hope like hell we can get it when we need it most.

The Khe Sanh SF camp will be our B camp where Gator and Crocodile will fly out of.

Escape and Evasion

If we have to withdraw from Outpost Victory, our nearest friendlies are an ARVN camp east on the same plateau and the Ke Sahn Marine base southeast of that.

Threats

Lots of little yellow dudes in black pajamas running around, and some AA guns have come up against trolling aircraft. There have been some uniformed NVA sighted and ARVN troops have been ambushed, as well as almost nightly probing attacks on the 2 ARVN camps.

Additional Threats: Our missions into the valley are listed as TS Deniable. In case you do not know, this means we aren’t there doing what we will be doing, so there will be no weapons hold areas for friendly aircraft to prevent them from firing on us by accident or on purpose unless our designated Helo support is in the area to tell them to stop shooting. Cobra hunter/ killer teams, and pre-fragged air and arty strikes will continue all through the valley with no fire directing stations knowing we may be in the line of fire. So watch your asses.

Area ARVN forces also know nothing of our mission nor presence in the valley itself. Outpost Victory will be the only part of our missions that will be common knowledge and listed as an observation post only.

Support

119th Attack Helicopter Company “The Gators” for taxi/supply

119th Attack Helicopter Company “The Crocodiles” for gunship CAS/Supply when available (Callsign is Gator)

All arty fire missions and air support needed will be relayed through Spartan Command as comms with those support commands will likely be sketchy at best and non-existent at worst.

Supply

All resupply in the field will be by Helo only, so a suitable LZ will need to be secured for resupply, or it will be kicked out of the bird from the air if no suitable LZ close enough or enemy fire is too intense.

Gator will airlift hard supplies into outpost Victory once it is secured.

Weapons

Standard mixed weapons per personal whim, as usual for us snake eaters.
